Case:
State v. J.F.
Charges:
Domestic Assault
Outcome:
Not Guilty on all counts
JF hired us to represent him on charges of Domestic Assault after an altercation at a bar in Scott County, Minnesota. JF was accused of striking his wife after an argument in the parking lot of a bar. There were no witnesses to the altercation and JF maintained that he was acting in self-defense. He was adamant he only acted to protect himself after his wife hit him several times.
JF had the courage to reject the plea offers made by the prosecutor’s office and take his case to trial. We decided to waive his right to a jury trial and, instead, argue the case directly to the judge. We spent time investigating the incident and preparing our defense. Specifically, we focused on JF’s testimony and ensuring he was prepared to tell his story and handle any cross-examination questions. Within an hour of our closing arguments, the Court returned verdicts of NOT GUILTY on all charges.
